NHL Ontario News: Maple Leafs & Senators allowed capacity of up to 50 percent, Watson suspended two games, more

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators will soon welcome larger crowds at their home games.

Per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Ontario provincial government announced Monday that the Maple and Senators may welcome capacities of up to 50 percent for home games beginning this Thursday. Friedman added that Mar. 14 is the scheduled date to allow full capacity again.

The NBA’s Toronto Raptors, who share the Scotiabank Arena venue with the Maple Leafs, are also permitted to have 50 percent capacity at home games.

Previously, the limit was 500 people for indoor sporting events in Ontario. But the Maple Leafs and Raptors, two of the hottest teams in professional sports right now, will soon get much-needed crowd noise and support to fuel their playoff pushes.

The Maple Leafs share the fourth-best Stanley Cup odds with the Carolina Hurricanes at +1000. Maple Leafs, Senators and Raptors fans will be able to place wagers at the top sportsbooks in Ontario when they launch in the province on April 4.

The Senators, who have been ravaged by injuries all season, are headed for a fifth straight non-playoff appearance. They have a lacklustre 9-13-1 home record, but the return of large crowds at home can only help Brady Tkachuk and company improve their overall play.

Toronto has been one of the NHL’s top teams on home ice in 2021-22. They’re 17-4-1 at Scotiabank Arena, having not lost a game there since Dec. 9 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Senators’ Austin Watson suspended two games for hit on Jack Ahcan

The struggling Senators won’t have one of their veteran forwards for the Feb. 15 and Feb. 17 games against the St. Louis Blues (home) and Buffalo Sabres (away), respectively.

On Sunday, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Austin Watson had been suspended two games for his interference infraction on Boston Bruins blueliner Jack Ahcan.

Watson was penalized for interference in the first period on the hit. The Senators fell 2-0 to the Bruins despite a strong outing by goalie Matt Murray, who turned aside 35 shots.

2021-22 has been a frustrating season for Watson as far as individual performance goes. The 30-year-old has just two goals and one assist in three games. The veteran winger is signed for one more season with a $1.5 million cap hit.

Maple Leafs looking to move out Nick Ritchie

With the Maple Leafs on the verge of another postseason appearance, general manager Kyle Dubas figures to be one of the most aggressive buyers at the Mar. 21 trade deadline.

Dubas’ long to-do list will reportedly include finding a taker for struggling veteran forward Nick Ritchie.

On Saturday, Friedman reported on Hockey Night in Canada that the Maple Leafs are looking to provide Ritchie with a fresh start.

“There’s no official trade request, but I think everybody here understands it might be better to find him somewhere else to play,” Friedman said, “and I think there has been some traction in the last few days around the league.”

The 26-year-old Ritchie came off a career year with the rival Bruins that saw him tally 15 goals and 11 assists in 56 games. However, the cap-strapped Bruins decided not to bring back the 6-foot-2 forward.

Toronto took a chance on Ritchie, hoping he’d be able to continue his scoring touch on a deep group of skilled offensive players. But the No. 10 selection by the Anaheim Ducks of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has mustered just two goals and seven assists in 33 games.

The Maple Leafs waived Ritchie last month, but there were no takers for the veteran forward. He was subsequently assigned to the Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, but Ritchie has yet to play a game there.

As usual, the Toronto offense has been spearheaded by Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Mitch Marner, William Nylander and defenseman Morgan Rielly. Michael Bunting, Ondrej Kase, Pierre Engvall and Jason Spezza have supplied key secondary scoring, making Ritchie expendable.

Ritchie’s deal with the Maple Leafs is for $5 million over two years. They’ll likely have to take on a similar contract in order to find a partner for the last year and a bit of Ritchie’s deal.

Cat grumpy after getting only 20 hours sleep

0

A cat has apologised for being so short-tempered – blaming it on getting only 20 hours of sleep.

Ginger Tom Brian says he was tossing and turning for ages because of noisy roadworks outside his Ipswich home.

“I only got about 20 hours sleep yesterday,” explained Brian. “So that’s why I’m a little short-tempered today.

“I can’t see why they can’t do the roadworks between 8 and 8.30am and 6 and 6.30pm when I am being fed.

“Nobody should be kept awake in this way.”

Owner Lorraine Fisher, 34, said: “Brian has been a bit of a bugger today.

“He scratched me for no reason as I walked past. I have explained this to the man in charge of the roadworks but he told me is a West Ham fan and hates cats.”

A spokesman for Suffolk County Council said: “We apologise for the inconvenience to Brian, and hope he gets back to his normal 23 hours sleep soon.”

2021 was not a particularly good year for the Cheltenham Festival overall. Several races, (including the Cheltenham Gold Cup itself) had to shrink their prize pools down because of the lockdown restrictions. That’s all history though because the Cheltenham Festival is coming back to its full glory this year.

House prices at record high, with average Norfolk hovel now £7,999

By Ian Bred, Norfolk Reporter

Skyrocketing house prices have sent the cost of the average Norfolk hovel to a whopping £7,999.

Nationwide revealed today that house prices had reached record levels, soaring 2% in August alone.

The jump means first-time buyers in Norfolk can almost certainly no longer afford a hovel of their own.

Estate agent Lorraine Fisher, 34, explained: “The prices have bounced after lockdown, but unfortunately first-time buyers will now find it impossible to get a foot on the hovel ladder.

“And existing hovel owners are keen to do up their homes to add further value.”

One hovel owner, Edna Spratt, 44, from Dereham in Norfolk, today showed off her brand new kitchen. She is pictured below in the gleaming accommodation.

Nationally, the average house price is now around £270,000. You might think this would send first-time buyers rushing to Norfolk to take advantage of the cheap accommodation there.

“Sadly not,” Ms Fisher explained. “Today’s young buyers tend to want running water, electricity and the internet.

“None of these are yet available in Norfolk. But once they do arrive, we expect house prices to jump accordingly.”

Should Tiger Roll give rivals a Grand National head start this year?

0

Two-time Grand National winner Tiger Roll looks set to feature in the Grand National at Aintree for a third time in April. Success in the world’s most famous steeplechase will help him match the record for the most wins in the race, currently held by Red Rum.

Given how dominant Tiger Roll has been in the marathon contest, it could be good if the organizers considered the Irish horse giving the rest of the field a lap start, to make it more interesting this year.

The 2018 and 2019 winner has racing odds of +2500 for the 2022 Grand National. His form so far this season has been below his best, however, this horse often produces his best performances at Cheltenham and Aintree.

Tiger Roll is one of the most popular chasers of his generation. He is a horse who is much smaller than many of his rivals in structure, but what he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in his determination to outbattle his rivals.

Connections not afraid to go against public wish

Gordon Elliott’s runner missed the chance to match Red Rum’s record of three Grand National wins in 2021. His owner opted to pull the horse out of the race after a row over the weight allocation he was handed.

The decision for the horse to miss the steeplechase was met with disappointment by Tiger Roll’s army of fans. To add further salt to the wound, he appeared at the Cheltenham Festival a month earlier where he looked back to his best, prevailing in the Cross Country Chase for the third time.

Although Tiger Roll does have an entry in this year’s 40-runner contest, a final decision is likely to be made much closer to the race. Unless the terms are acceptable to his connections, it would be no surprise if they disappointed the racing public who want to see their favourite horse have a shot at history.

Tiger Roll status should be commissioned now

Given what he has already achieved at Aintree, now may be the time for a statue of the horse to be commissioned. Red Rum was buried near the winning line at the Merseyside racecourse at the age of 30. A great way of honouring the latest Grand National star would be with a statue.

In the age of social media, this statue would be very popular with racegoers who would take selfies with the bronze sculpture on their visits to Aintree. It would also give racing fans another reason to visit the racecourse in Liverpool.

Another way of honouring Tiger Roll would be for Aintree to name a fence after the dual winner of their feature race. Foinavon and Valentine are two former horses who have obstacles named after them on the Grand National course.

Whether Tiger Roll does appear in 2022 from a level start or by giving his rivals an advantage, he does not need another victory to cement his place as a Grand National legend. When it finally comes, his retirement will be deserved as he has set the standard for so many future Grand National contenders to live up to.

The craziest gambling wins of all time

0

There is no shortage of huge gambling wins throughout history, particularly in Vegas where massive slots jackpots are the norm. But then there are some gambling wins that make you do a double-take and think: “How the hell did that happen?” A bit like Mr Blobby hitting the top of the UK charts—it just doesn’t make sense.

Here we take a look at some of those wins and ponder the meaning of life… and why nothing like this ever happens to us.

On a roll — Patricia Demauro

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the term ‘on a roll’ was coined by someone watching Patricia Demauro hit the craps table at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City back in 2009.

That’s because she managed to completely obliterate the world record for most consecutive rolls at the craps table. The old record was set by Stanley Fujitake in 1989 when he rolled 118 times in three hours and six minutes.

Demauro’s four-hour and 18-minute session saw her roll 154 times including 25 passes which put her in the ‘Platinum Arm Club’. The club lists names of players who have played for over 90 minutes without ‘sevening out’.

Demauro never revealed how much money she walked out of the casino with, but some estimates put it at around $180,000 (£130,000). Not a huge amount when you see some of the other wins on this list, but an impressive feat nonetheless.

Autopilot jackpot — Peter Hollan

Peter Hollan’s love of online slot Arabian Nights saw him land a life-changing jackpot that is one of the largest ever paid out through an online casino. Incredibly though, he didn’t even realise that he’d won.

Peter was playing Arabian Nights and decided to stick it on autoplay while he left the room for a few minutes. He returned to a screen telling him that he had somehow won the game’s progressive jackpot. The jackpot was a cool €14 million (£11.8 million).

We’re guessing that popping out to make a cup of tea is rarely spoken of as one of the ways to make money at an online casino, but it’s certainly our new favourite.

All-in at the Palace — Player unidentified

In November of 1998 at the Palace Station Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas a woman who had played the slots there for 23 years decided to go all-in with her slot machine budget. She put a full $100 into one random slot machine and picked up the jackpot.

Great win, but what makes this even more incredible is that the same woman continued to play at the casino and managed to bag another jackpot on the same day. In total, she had gambled around $300 before winning a mouth-watering $27.5 million (£16.2 million).

The woman understandably decided not to reveal her identity to the public but did say that she intended to share her winnings with her children and grandchildren. She also decided not to take the lump sum but to instead receive $1.1 million over 25 years. She’ll receive her final payment in 2023.

The longest streak — Archie Karas

Karas has what you might call a chequered history when it comes to gambling. The man they call The Greek arrived in Vegas with $50 and within three years had put together the longest documented winning streak in history.

He hit the tables and through some good fortune and epic decision making, he was on a roll. He varied his games and never spent too long at one before switching things up. Within three years he had turned that $50 into $40 million.

Unfortunately, in the years since, he has landed himself in hot water with both the casinos and authorities for alleged cheating. Karas now finds himself in the dreaded black book of gamblers banned from all Vegas casinos

With the exception of Karas who was a dab hand at razz and poker, the stories above just go to prove that some people are simply born lucky.

What’s the 5G network and how can it revolutionise our world?

0

Telecommunication companies are looking ahead to a busy 2022 year in terms of the 5G rollout expected in the UK and worldwide.

5G is a technology development of the wireless communications that we know and have been using until now that goes by the name of 4G. It’s expected that its use will dramatically improve the state of digital devices and will completely change the way human beings interact with mobile devices.

Improvements lie mostly in the speed at which we can use the Internet on our devices. It’s an evolution that can be compared to when we went from 3G connections to the 4G connection which is today the most common in mobile devices.

If you’re a recurrent user of smartphones or tablets, you’ll surely have noticed the improvements in terms of connectivity and the speed at which an app or website loaded its information.

4G allowed for example the further development of the gaming industry in mobile devices. High-speed connections made it possible for users to be able to play online games and even share “game parties” where different devices connect in order to host multiplayer sessions.

The casino industry managed to harvest many of the advantages of the improvements in connectivity by putting a lot of effort into the development of online casinos. The success was such that nowadays UK players can enjoy trusted reviews of an increasing offer of online casinos when choosing a platform to bet in games like poker, blackjack or slots. A good connection is one of the basic needs for these companies to be able to offer the necessary standards in security and guarantees when making deposits or paying with credit and debit cards.

It was the same case for many industries that now have built business models that rely completely on Internet services, like online marketplaces such as Zalando or the dating apps like Tinder.

5G is expected to be between 10 and 20 times faster than 4G depending on the hardware capabilities of the device in use. This means that you could be able to download a full movie in HD quality to your phone in a couple of minutes. Websites would load instantly into your screen and apps would open immediately, saying goodbye to any loading times. The immediacy of the interactions could completely change the experience with mobile devices and the importance of the digital realm could even gain further weight in our daily lives.

But mobile devices will only be a small part of the revolution of the 5G network.

The biggest impact it will have will be on industries of the famous Internet of Things: Robots, sensors, advanced computing, energy management and even surgical medicine. In the last example, there’s already the case of the first surgery conducted by distance by Antonio de Lacy which marked a landmark for robotically controlled operations.

With 5G, the Internet of Things will go to undiscovered frontiers. Everything will start to have connection capabilities, from kitchen devices to personal vehicles. Each time, more devices will be able to share information and act efficiently according to our needs and habits.

And with all of this in hand, many questions the possible downsides in security that the 5G network could have, mainly in topics like hacking. But experts in the matter assure that security was at the heart of the design of 5G networks in order to make it the most secure network possible.

If 5G is meant to be used in industries and professional sectors, it is important that the data shared thru the devices remains with the owners.

The recent rollout of 5G in the United States is proof that companies want to tackle safety issues before creating more points of connection: AT&T and Verizon have delayed their rollouts due to warnings by airports and airlines on possible interferences that 5G could have with operational instruments inside airplanes.

In the end, the importance of the human eye supported by analytical and scientific studies remains the key component when implementing new technologies and will be essential when monitoring the interaction of 5G with the rest of the industries.

How to trade AVAX to ETH in 2022

0

The digitalization of the world has given a lot of surprises. The most amazing thing that happened was the introduction of cryptocurrency, which has favoured a lot people, with many buying and trading crypto coins.

The well-known crypto coins are Bitcoin, Dogecoin, air swap, Polkadot, Binance, Cosmos, etc. Apart from this, most people also trade for the AVAX and ETH crypto coins. Crypto trading, crypto exchange, or crypto swapping are all the same processes.

These have been some of the few must-know tips if someone is interested in trading Avax To Eth and knowing the best possible methods to get the best trading experience.

Steps to follow the trading process

The rise in the demand for trading between the Avax crypto coins and the Ethereum (ETH) crypto coins has increased rapidly. There have been many platforms that offer excellent trading options for trading between crypto coins. Here is a step-by-step guide to begin with the trading process, which is identical to any trading platform chosen by someone.

  • The first step is to choose the right platform to trade. Choosing the right platform would help one to have a good trading experience. After one has chosen the platform, one can move to the trading widget to start the trading process.
  • The second step would be to select the pair of Crypto coins that one wants to trade between. Then one would have to put the amount of the coin to be traded for.
  • The next step would be to ask one for a wallet address. By giving out the correct wallet address, one can receive the traded coins directly into the account.
  • The next step would require one to pay for the trade process. There has been a trading rate that differs from one platform to the other.
  • After this, a person needs to sit and wait for the site to search for the best beneficial exchange rates for trading. Then the transaction is all done, and the trading is over.

While trading cryptocurrencies, one must have become familiar with VeChain Staking. It is a process where the crypto coins can help one have a passive income by staking the transaction into the blockchain.

Avax And ETH predictions for 2022

The trading process would surely need one to know the upcoming value predictions, which would help one be in profit. It is always good to analyse the profit rates and then invest.

The Avalanche (Avax) prediction for 2022 seems to be strong enough, showing the value can go beyond $40 if the crypto markets are stable and there are no severe breakdowns. However, for the ETH (Ethereum) prediction for 2022, it is yet to be decided whether it would be an excellent choice to invest in or not. It is because the analysis shows that the ETH values might increase in the first few months of 2022 but may have to decrease in the latter half of the year.

Safe trading practice

We can do trading on just any exchange platform. There are hundreds of trading platforms. But not all safe. Crypto hacks and phishing have become more common than one can imagine. There have been many fake sites too. Hence, one must be aware of the genuine websites where one can choose to trade Avax To ETH.

Also, it is advised not to fall for the high exchange values, which can be a trap. One must always keep a good eye on the exchange rates and the trading graphs, which would help decide whether to trade at the moment or not. The graphs would help one determine the falls and downs in the rates. Also, one must not share private credentials other than the wallet address on any website.

For a perfect trading experience, it is always advised to go for the official trading platforms to ensure the utmost security of the trading process.

Conclusion

It was everything that a person needed to know about the trading practices. If someone is new to the crypto world, then one must thoroughly research the various processes and then proceed with caution.
