Jammie dodger in Downing Street

Prime Minister Boris Johnson got into the spirit of National Biscuit Day today by taking tea with a jammie dodger in Downing Street.

Mr Johnson enjoyed his half-baked treat as the rest of Britain choked on the crumbs.

Political reporter Lorraine Fisher, 34, explained: “This week has proved more than any other that Dominic Cummings is a jammie dodger.

“Quite how he has kept his job is anyone’s guess, but that’s what comes from hobnobbing with the right people.

“I suppose it’s one rule for the rich tea and another for the rest of us.”

ABC’s of CBD oil in the UK

CBD oil in the UK

The demand for CBD (cannabidiol) oil in the UK has kept soaring in spite of the global COVID-19 pandemic. It is highly unlikely that enthusiasm will dissipate any time soon. If anything it is projected that CBD sales will hit $2.1 billion globally in 2020. In the UK alone, over six million adults were already using CBD products by mid-2019.

Unfortunately, many people do not have a clear picture of what CBD oil represents. And without a clear understanding, it is easy to make wrong conclusions leading to the abuse or misuse of CBD oil. This four-minute read explains everything you need to know about CBD oil, and specifically as it applies to the UK.

What is CBD oil?

CBD is the shortened form for cannabidiol. This is one of the many phytocannabinoids (chemical compounds) that are found in cannabis. The cannabis species has over 100 different cannabinoids even though only a few have been isolated and investigated.

The two most popular phytocannabinoids that are found in cannabis are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and CBD. Unlike THC, CBD does not cause psychoactive effects.

How does CBD work?

A lot of research has been carried out to investigate how plant-derived phytocannabinoids such as CBD are able to affect the body. It is now clear that phytocannabinoids interact with the body’s unique endocannabinoid system which is responsible for maintaining homeostasis.

The endocannabinoid system regulates different functions in the body including pain and inflammation, sleep, memory, hunger and appetite, reproduction, metabolism, and mood. It has been called “the universal regulator.”

CBD is a weak agonist (supporter) at the CB2 receptor which is one of the two receptors of the endocannabinoid system.

CBD oil supports, maintains, and optimizes the functions of a healthy ECS.

Is CBD legal in the UK?

CBD is legal in the UK so long as it contains less than 1mg of the psychoactive compound THC in the finished product, it is sold as a food supplement and consequently, no medical claims should be made about CBD products. Products that are considered medicinal must get approval from the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

A few tips to keeping in mind when shopping for CBD

Not all CBD is created equal, in fact, a study last year found that many CBD products for sale on the high-street contain little to no CBD in them, worse still, there is always the risk of buying CBD oil that has been adulterated with harmful compounds. Remember that the CBD market is still largely unregulated.

So how do you go about finding high-quality CBD product in the UK? Here are a few tips taken from CBD Shopy’s top CBD oil review.

1.   Lab-Reports/COA

When buying high-quality CBD oil in the UK, make sure it is backed by third-party results from an independent lab. This will tell you the exact amount of CBD, THC and other cannabinoids found in the product.

The certificate of analysis (COA) from the independent lab should also indicate the presence or absence of contaminants such as heavy metals and pesticides. Make sure that the COA report is from an accredited testing facility.

2.   CBD Potency

CBD products come in different strengths and concentrations. The potency is the amount of CBD in each mL or serving. Ultimately, you should be paying for CBD potency and not bottle size. Find out how much CBD is contained in the product before purchasing it. It is also important to confirm the presence and concentration of CBD by counterchecking with the COA report.  The average market price in the UK ranges from £25.00 to £40.00 for 500mg of CBD.

3.   Labelling- No Medical Claims

Some unscrupulous CBD retailers are out to entice customers by making unsubstantiated claims about CBD oil. The MRHA has very clear guidelines on the marketing of CBD. Make sure that there are no unsubstantiated medical claims on the CBD product that you want to buy.

4.   Full-spectrum CBD Vs CBD Isolate

Full-spectrum CBD products contain additional compounds apart from the CBD. This includes extra beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes. Science has shown that full-spectrum CBD offers greater benefits for supporting homeostasis as compared to pure CBD alone. Unless you require high amounts of pure CBD, consider going for full-spectrum CBD with full entourage benefits.

5.   Consult with Your Doctor

Since CBD affects the endocannabinoid system, it is important to consult with your doctor before starting on CBD. CBD also interacts with some drugs and affects how they are metabolized. A qualified physician or pharmacist will be able to advise you based on what other drugs you are taking.

Once you are confident about the genuineness of the vendor and the quality of the CBD, you can now consider your individual preferences.

CBD comes in different formulations which include oils, capsules, creams, and edibles such as ZenBears CBD gummies.

Each CBD formulation has its own unique advantages and appeals to different people groups. Ask for the most convenient CBD formulation that will suit your preference and lifestyle.

Ultimately, make sure that you are dealing with a verified CBD vendor with numerous positive reviews. It always helps when other customers are saying good things about a vendor that you want to try.

Terrified roofer can only work on bungalows

A roofer will only work on bungalows – because he is afraid of heights.

Karl Robinson, from Ipswich, has to turn down loads of work because he suffers from vertigo.

His problems started three years ago when he had a panic attack while working on 34-year-old Lorraine Fisher’s two-storey terraced house in the town’s Bramford Road.

“I looked down and that was it,” explained the 38-year-old. “I was terrified and clung on to the chimney like a baby.

“I could not move my legs, let alone climb down, so the owner of the house had to call the fire brigade to rescue me.

“It was so embarrassing, and ever since I have only been able to work on bungalows where I am much closer to the ground.”

He said he had now got a reputation for specialising in bungalow roofs, and picked up a lot of repair work in places like Kesgrave, near Ipswich, as a result.

“But it means I have to turn down a lot of work on normal houses and so lose out on a lot of money,” added Mr Robinson.

“The only good part is I only have to invest in one small ladder and do not need to pay for scaffolding.”

He says he can not do another job, because “roofing is all I know”.

Doctors say there is no cure for his fear of heights, but have suggested he attends some hypnotherapy.

Why is football the No.1 sport in the world?

0

The beautiful game can bring together people from all walks of life in a way that few other sports can. If you are searching for something that unites people in the way that football does, you will be hard-pressed to come up with some good examples.

Here are some of the reasons why football is the number one sport throughout the world.

Easy to Play

Other sports and competitions have a complex set of rules and requirements. They may need you to have a specific set of equipment that would make it difficult to jump in and just start playing whenever you choose. This is not the case with football. Football is one of the most accessible games in the entire world.

Millions of people of all skill levels are playing football across the world. Whether you are playing with the best equipment out there or you are just dropping a couple of jumpers on the grass to act as goalposts in the park, it is so easy to get a game of football going. You will rarely find a sport that is enjoyed by so many on the amateur level.

Plenty to Enjoy Beyond the Game

Football has one of the biggest draws in pop culture and this has spawned countless products and services that try to appeal to those who love the game. For example, just take a look at the sheer number of football-themed games out there. If you are a football fan who is looking for something fun to play, you are never going to have to look far.

Whether you are trying out some betting to place a few wagers on your favourite team or you are buying the new season kit to wear to a home or away match, there is always something new to engage with in the world of football.

All Cultures

People of many diverse backgrounds come together to share their love of football. A big event like a world cup is just as much a celebration of different cultures as it is about playing the game. People do not even have to speak the same language to get a game going.

Football is called the beautiful game and it is a fitting nickname. There are few things humanity shares that can bring us together the way football does. It is the number one sport in the world because it is able to unite us and help us work together in a positive way. Whether we are watching a match or looking for top football rumours, there is always something good to find.

No matter whether you play football in a professional team, an amateur 5-a-side at work, or just have a kickabout with your kids when you can, there is always a way you can engage with the world of football. Think about some of the reasons why you enjoy football so much. Chances are, there are millions of people all around the globe who enjoy it for exactly the same reasons. This is why football is the number one sport out there.

Norfolk Police issue e-fit of turnip thieves

0

By Hugh Dunnett, Crime Correspondent

Norfolk Police have released an e-fit of four men they want to question after bags of turnips were stolen from a barn.

The suspects were seen running away from Bubba Spuckler’s smallholding near Downham Market, each with a bulging sack over their shoulders.

Officers were called to the area by Betty-Lou, who is Mr Spuckler’s sister and the mother of their eight children after she spotted four men vaulting over a brick wall into the fields behind her yard.

Police spokesperson Sgt Lorraine Fisher, 34, said: “Unfortunately, Miss Spuckler said the four men had no distinguishing marks or features, and looked very much like every other man in Norfolk.

“But she did manage to build this e-fit image with our police artist, and we hope it may help jolt someone’s memory or conscience. The turnips were not worth a great deal, but Mr Spuckler tells us they were of great sentimental value.”

Norfolk Police wantedHave you seen these Norfolk men?

The police spokesman added: “If anyone recognises any of the men, they are urged to contact their local police station immediately. Criminals should know we no have a zero-tolerance policy to rural crime – which is why we armed all our officers with pitchforks.”

Mr Spuckler and his sister were too upset to comment when contacted by the Suffolk Gazette yesterday, although we understand they are “comforting each other”.

Payment options for slot deposits explained

Choosing an online casino to play at can be a lengthy process. A casino like Dream Jackpot that offers a large selection of slots including new releases always grabs the attention of potential punters. Online casinos that are easy to navigate through are a plus too.

Other Customer Favourites

Another star attraction for potential customers to new casinos is the welcome bonus that casinos offer. A good package should include some free cash and free spins and wagering requirements should be pretty low. Better still are free spins that are completely free of the shackles of wagering rules.

Feeling Secure

However, the single most important factor that influences potential new customers is the security of the casino. A good casino would have its own on-site security and the deposit options available would be tried and trusted options that have been used regularly without any problems.

Casinos spend millions annually on security and this includes choosing the most tried, tested and secure banking partners possible, as player security is paramount. Once you have had your identity electronically verified during the casino sign-up process, you will then be ready to start playing with real cash.

However, tighter laws now mean that some individuals will need to verify their accounts further still, with photographic identification and proof of address documentation, before they can even deposit. Once this has all been provided, you will need to top up your casino account balance with cash funds before you can even spin a slot for real. From April 2020 you will no longer be able to gamble with credit cards, so these options will be off the table by law.

Payment Options

All casinos present their customers with a reasonable choice of secure banking options that are user-friendly. The easiest and quickest way to deposit is with a debit card. To register these cards you will have to go to the banking section of your account and add your card to your payment methods. Each time you make a deposit, you will have to enter the CVV number on the back of the card. Other payment options that you may have come across that are very popular are E-wallets. These are digital wallets that allow you to make transactions with compatible sites. The beauty of an E-wallet is that it adds another layer of security to the payment process.

The most used E-wallets are Paypal and Skrill. These are popular worldwide and are accepted by most casinos. The only downside is that E-wallet depositors are sometimes excluded from welcome bonuses and other promotions.

Setting up an E-wallet is simple, all you do is visit the chosen wallet provider, then, register an account and link your bank accounts with your wallet. Deposits are immediate and payouts are fast and free of charge.

No Bank Required

If you want to bypass banks altogether then topping up with a prepaid Paysafecard is the obvious choice. All these methods make moving money a quick and secure process.

Cast Away Wilson the volleyball finally rescued

Castaway Wilson the volleyball

Cast Away Wilson the volleyball has finally been rescued, 19 years after Tom Hanks was picked up by a container ship in the Pacific Ocean.

While the world rejoiced at Hanks’ return to civilisation after four years stuck on a desert island, nothing was heard of Wilson again.

But this week it was revealed the volleyball, who was last seen floating helplessly away from Hanks’ raft in Cast Away, had been found by a fishing boat.

Wilson had been bobbing around in the sea for the 18 years since Hanks was picked up.

Trawler skipper Steve Walshe said: “We were heading back to port when we spotted something in the water.

“When we got a bit closer we realised it was a volleyball with a distinctive red face.

“Unbelievably it was Wilson, and he was still alive if a little deflated.”

Cast Away Wilson

Wilson, 22, is now being cared for at a sports hospital in Los Angeles before beginning the long process of being integrated once again into the modern world.

He has not been able to speak a word since his rescue and is clearly traumatised by the initial plane crash in 1995, four years of being spoken to by Tom Hanks on a desert island, and then 19 years of drifting in the sea.

Volleyball behaviour expert Lorraine Fisher, 34, from Suffolk, explained: “Poor Wilson will be under enormous emotional strain.

“He needs to be reintroduced to society slowly, and hopefully one day he will be bouncing around again and be able to have a family.”

She said it was unlikely he would make it to professional volleyball games, so she will have no use for her William Hill Plus card, which she uses to bet on sport.

Millions of cinema-goers still cry recalling the scene when Wilson fell off Hanks’ raft and floated away into oblivion.

It was always assumed he had drowned or had been torn apart by sharks.
