Norwich City’s stadium was the noisiest it has ever been today thanks to Sky Sports’ fake crowd noise.

The famously quiet Carrow Road fans are normally silent as they sit through the pain of watching the Canaries.

But because they were barred from attending tonight’s televised game against Southampton, Sky Sports piped in fake crowd noise.

Football supporter Lorraine Fisher, 34, said: “I’ve never heard so much noise at a Norwich City game before.

“They should keep the real fans away all the time as there was far more atmosphere today.”

Football fans are currently not allowed to watch their team because of COVID-19 social distancing rules.

Any viewer choosing the “no crowd noise” option on Sky Sports will have instantly recognised the usual Carrow Road atmosphere.

Norwich lost the game 3-0, virtually guaranteeing relegation after one truly embarrassing season in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, East Anglian giants Ipswich Town finished comfortably in mid-table of their league, with no relegation worries.
