A140 JUNCTION, DISS Ipswich Town football fans have found a cheeky way to mark their team’s promotion to the Premier League after a 22-year absence.

Following the Ipswich Tractor Boys’ 2-0 victory over Huddersfield at Portman Road. Securing their spot in the top flight, local supporters tweaked a local traffic sign to mock their East Anglian rivals, Norwich City.

The altered sign on the A140 roundabout at Diss. Now humorously directs traffic with a subtle dig: Ipswich (first exit) proudly heading to the Premier League. While Norwich (second exit) is resigned to remain in the Championship.

Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich side had a three-point lead over third-placed Leeds going into the final game of the season.

Needing only a draw to secure promotion. They not only managed that but did so in style, becoming the first club since Southampton in 2012 to achieve back-to-back promotions from the third tier to the Premier League.

The festive atmosphere in Ipswich was palpable. Thousands of fans gathered outside the stadium, setting off smoke bombs and flares. Celebrating the return to glory after two decades. The joy in Ipswich contrasted sharply with the mood in Norwich, where the Canaries’ season ended in disappointment.

Swings and roundabouts

Norwich, who finished sixth, were crushed 4-0 by Leeds in the play-off semi-final, leading to a major shake-up. Manager David Wagner was swiftly sacked, and 19 players. Including former Premier League star Ben Gibson, were released as part of a summer overhaul.
