LONDON — British Airways has officially introduced its newest seating class for premium travellers: open-air wing-deck lounging designed for passengers who want to get a head start on their holiday tan at cruising altitude.

The new offering features row upon row of luxury sun loungers mounted directly onto the upper surfaces of the aircraft’s wings. Clad in swimwear, passengers can relax above the clouds at 500 miles per hour while soaking in unfiltered, high-altitude solar radiation.

According to the airline, thirty minutes spent on the wing at 38,000 feet provides UV exposure equivalent to a full two weeks sitting poolside in Benidorm.

“Why waste half your holiday lying by a crowded resort pool when you can achieve a rich, golden glow before the captain even turns off the seatbelt sign?” an airline spokesperson confirmed during the launch event.

Hot air guaranteed

Industry experts have noted a few minor operational drawbacks to the open-air class. Passengers face a non-negligible risk of severe hypothermia due to ambient outside temperatures of -50°C, as well as the potential hazard of sliding off the wing during routine banking manoeuvres or being ingested directly into a turbofan engine. To preserve even tan lines, no safety harnesses or oxygen masks are provided.

Despite fierce pushback from civil aviation authorities regarding extreme wind chill, hypoxia, and basic laws of physics, the carrier remains confident that the high-altitude sun deck will prove a massive hit with British holidaymakers.

Addressing safety critics, management brushed off the concerns, proudly standing by the brand’s updated corporate motto: “British Airways – Hot air guaranteed.”
